John was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina. After
completing high school in Kings Mountain, he continued his
education at University of North Carolina. John was called into
service during World War II. John married Patricia Neisler and
was the father of three daughters and two sons.
For many years John served on the Board of
Directors for First Union National Bank. He was involved for
many years in the family business, Plonk Brothers Department
Store. For most people, starting a business is a lifelong dream
too risky to attempt. For John it took a $300 business loan from
his mother, Elvira Foust Plonk, to start Foust Textiles, a
successful business still operating today. In l964 John Plonk,
formerly with Ely and Walker founded Foust Textiles. The company
expanded the warehouse in 1994 with twice the storage space.
Foust Textiles, Inc. sells textiles to all 50 states and in
foreign countries.
John passed away in 2003 after a brief
illness. But his business and personal legacies continue. Foust
Textiles, Inc. continues to operate under the strong leadership
of John O. Plonk, III, President. |
